How much do custom cufflinks cost? What drives the price

Custom cufflinks range from engraved stock blanks to cast gold and licensed designer pairs. What each tier gets you, what drives the price and where ours sit.

What custom cufflinks cost depends on two things: how much of the cufflink is actually custom, and what it is made of. A name engraved on a stock blank is the least expensive route, a pair modeled and cast in gold by a jeweler is among the most expensive, and our titanium pairs start at $150 for any collection design.

Here is a fair look at each part of the market, what you get for the money, and why ours are priced where they are.

The market, tier by tier

Stock blanks with engraving or a printed photo

The most affordable custom cufflinks start as a ready-made blank, often in stainless steel. The personal part is added to the surface: initials or a date laser-engraved into the face, or a photograph printed onto it.

This is a sensible choice when price matters most, when you need a dozen matching pairs for an event, or when the photograph is the point. It is usually quick, too.

The limit is that the cufflink itself isn't custom. The shape, the size and the back belong to the blank, and only the surface is yours.

Cast silver or gold from a jeweler

A jeweler can design a pair with you, model it, cast it in sterling silver or gold and finish it by hand. You get precious metal, a maker you can talk to, and a pair that keeps its value as metal. Gold in particular holds its worth in a way titanium doesn't.

The price rises with the jeweler's hours and with the weight of metal. Gold is sold by weight, and it is dense: the same pair weighs about three and a half times as much in 18k gold as in titanium, and you pay for every gram. We set out the weights in titanium vs silver and gold cufflinks. A one-off commission also carries the cost of making the model before anything is cast.

Licensed designer pairs

Designer houses sell finished pairs, some carrying a licensed logo from another brand. You pay for the house's design, finishing and packaging, and for the name. That is fair: for some buyers, the name is the point.

What you don't usually get is much say in the design. These are mostly finished designs, sold as they are.

What drives the price

  • Material and weight. Precious metals are sold by weight, so dense metals and large faces cost more. Titanium is not a precious metal, so you aren't paying for bullion.
  • How much is custom. Engraving a blank changes only the surface. A design of your own changes the whole object.
  • Tooling. Casting needs a model and a mold for each design. Machining needs programming and tool time. Printing builds directly from the design file, with no mold.
  • Finish. Tumbling, polishing, plating and coating each add steps.
  • The name. Designer houses and licensed logos carry a premium.

Personalized and monogram cufflinks in titanium

In our studio, personalization goes beyond the surface. You start from a collection design or a blank face, then add text, monograms, motifs, patterns, borders and 3D elements such as a die, a stone or a dome. You choose the shape, the size and the back. Or you describe an idea in words, and the studio draws a one-of-one design for print.

A monogram can be raised from the face or engraved into it, as long as the lettering suits printed titanium: raised lines at least 0.5 mm wide with gaps of at least 0.4 mm, engraved lines at least 0.5 mm wide, and pierced holes at least 0.8 mm. A check step measures every line and gap against those rules before you can order, so a script letter too fine to hold is caught on screen, not after printing.

If the pair is a gift for a groom or a wedding party, our guide to cufflinks for a wedding and black tie covers what to choose and when to order.

What ours cost, and why they start there

Pair Price
Any collection design $150
Custom or generated design A little more, by face size
Signature in light gold or black titanium nitride, any design $1,500

Shipping is included, and sales tax is added at checkout where it applies. Every pair is made to order and ships in about 6 weeks.

Each pair is printed by laser powder-bed fusion in Grade 5 titanium, Ti-6Al-4V, the alloy family used for aircraft parts and medical implants. It is cut from the build plate, its supports are removed and it is tumbled to a satin finish. Face and back are one piece, and every design has passed the titanium rules before it is printed. That is more making than engraving a stock blank, and far less metal than a pair in gold, which is where our starting price sits.

Because printing needs no mold, a custom or generated design costs only a little more than a collection pair. A Signature pair, at $1,500, adds a light gold or black titanium nitride finish, applied by a specialist coater over the tumbled titanium. The House Mark, our bull with a diamond-cut head, is made only as a Signature piece.

What titanium won't do is hold value as metal, the way gold does. If that matters to you, a jeweler's gold pair is the honest recommendation.
